colon cancer survivor Hi, my name is Terry and I am a colon cancer survivor. My cancer survivor story starts in March of 2007. My weight was gaining and I was getting out of shape. I was aching a lot and having difficulty with bowl movements. One day I would be constipated, the next day I would have diarrhea. This went on for about a week or two and then came the inability to eat without getting sick and then running to the bathroom all the time. This was interfering with work and the coworkers were getting agitated because I was always in the bathroom. I finally went to my physician and explained what was happening. She explained that it sounded much like diverticulitis and prescribed the appropriate medications. I was also placed on a diet of what foods not to eat because it would cause the diverticulitis to inflame. I went home and did what I was suppose to and for about a week it seemed the medications were working..
The pain in my stomach and my left side was still there but not as bad as it was. I thought that, that’s what it was and Im on my way to getting better. Man was I wrong after the 7 or 8th day I was back in pain again and could hardly stand and keep anything down. I went back and she was surprised that I was in that much pain. |

She then decided that I should get a colonoscopy and some other
blood work to screen for any infection. This was about the middle of March 2007.
I went and made the appointment and under went the procedure. The test results
didn’t come back until a week later and that’s when they discovered I had stage
3 colon cancer. Colon cancer is a silent, deadly killer of men and woman.
Personally, I recommend that you get a colonoscopy at any age! I mean really you
never know what is growing inside of you. Well when the test results came back I
met in the office with the dr. who performed the colonoscopy. I looked at him
and said I have, “colon cancer” don’t I? I felt so rejected and scared. I mean were talking about cancer!
Cancer, whether it’s colon cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer or any kind of
cancer it could kill you and it would be a slow painful death. My whole family
was in shock over the news. Especially since no one in our family had, had any
natural occurrence of cancer disease. The doc suggested that I make an
appointment for colon cancer surgery! I would also have to prep for it and do
what I could to strengthen my body’s immune system. I went through the necessary
steps and made the appointment with the cancer surgeon and discovered that I
would have to give my notice to work. Continue reading about:>> colon cancer survivor |
